19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's first title after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to create a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game break points in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
